My Favorite Resources for Learning Drupal
Recently on Twitter, one of my followers asked me for some resources and links for learning Drupal. I thought that would make an excellent blog post. When I first started learning Drupal, I watched screencasts and read all the relevant books I could get my hands on. I found screencast tutorials especially helpful as I was actually watching someone else configure and use Drupal on the admin side. There are many resources out on the web including dedicated websites, books, and even feeds on iTunes.
At the bottom of this post, you will find a full list with links, but here are some some of my favorites. These include NodeOne, Lullabot, Drupal Therapy, Learn By The Drop, GotDrupal and basically any drupal book from Packt Publishing. It also goes without saying that drupal.org is a huge way of learning whether it be issue queues, forums, groups and more. I highly recommend that if you are new to drupal, create an account there and get involved. Many of my blog posts on this site have been inspired by forum posts on drupal.org. There are also some Drupal groups on Linkedin but I have found those to be a bit "noisy", full of spammers / outsourcing trolls and people seeming to talk at each other rather than with each other.
I have also found installing Drupal "distros" and Install Profiles a great way to learn. These are pre-configured installations of drupal that help get you up and running much faster. Some of my favorites include Acquia, Open Atrium (Phase2 Technology) and Open Enterpise. (LevelTen).
Listed below are detailed Drupal learning resources and links. Mind you, at this point in time, you are bound to run into relevant information for both Drupal 6 & 7 so you will need to decide which ones are good for you accordingly.
Do you know of ones I have not listed here or have some favorites? Please submit a comment and I will add to the list!

Best Drupal Book
In my opinion the absolute best book for learning more than just the basics of Drupal is Using Drupal by the Lullabot crew. (http://www.usingdrupal.com/). It is a bit dated now and only covers Drupal 6 but the concepts presented are in many ways completely relevant to Drupal 7.
Good one, I missed that and
Good one, I missed that and agreed, that is an awesome book! Added.
Valuable Resource
The article has been a valuable resource and the amount of links you have placed in it has indeed more than enough to get me started and back into developing with Drupal after some time away from it. Last time I used, developed or experimented with Drupal was ver.5.
Thanks, Dan for quite the list!
Todd, glad it helped, I think
Todd, glad it helped, I think you will find Drupal has come a long way since v. 5, even with Drupal 6 but especially with Drupal 7. I also forgot to mention that Drupal Gardens is a good way to try out Drupal 7.
Awesome!
I will be going through the rest of these links today and thanks again! Just as a side note, I am digging the CAPTCHA for this site... is that a module or something you did?
Todd, the Captcha I use is
Todd, the Captcha I use is "Lost Characters" which is part of Captcha Pack, an add on to the main drupal Captcha module http://drupal.org/project/captcha_pack (I am using the Drupal 6 version)
Great list of resources
I just had someone ask me about best resources for learning Drupal. This is a great list and I'm going to forward the link to him.
Glad to see you have Build a Module on there. The videos are helpful and incredibly thorough. And the guy who makes them, Chris Shattuck, is an ultra nice guy. I met him at Drupalcon in Chicago and sat in on his BOF session.
I recommend his stuff.
Kevin, thanks, I didn't know
Kevin, thanks, I didn't know about Build a Module but added to the list based on a comment above. It looks really nice, I am going to check it out.
